Bidvest Wits will hope to return to their winning ways when they host Orlando Pirates in the Absa Premiership on Tuesday night at Bidvest Stadium.
Kick-off is at 7:30pm.
The Students are placed fourth on the log table, trailing the Buccaneers by three points with 41 points from 24 matches.
In their previous two matches, they drew 1-1 against Polokwane City away and lost by 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup to Ajax Cape Town last Friday.
Looking at the rival camp, Eric Tinkler’s men are in third place and have 44 points from 25 league matches and will be hoping to maintain their unbeaten record.
They’re fresh from a 3-3 draw against Platinum Stars last Wednesday and their primary target is a second place finish.
In the reverse fixture, Gavin Hunt’s men lost the match by 1-0 as goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez conceded an own goal back in September.
Nevertheless, coach Tinkler believes the match will be a tough encounter as the Braamfontein side are also challenging for the third spot.
“It’s another tough one for us. Wits are also challenging for a top-two spot like us and will be coming out guns blazing even more so because they are at home,” said Tinkler.
“We need to hit the ground running early on because Wits will want to get back to winning ways after their cup exit to Ajax on Friday. They have a very good record at home, it’s not often they lose when they play there.
“But we are up for the challenge and will look to get the job done as early as possible after our poor performance against Stars on Wednesday.”
Speaking ahead of the match, defender Buhle Mkhwanazi said they’re ready to host Pirates and put the Nedbank Cup disappointment behind them.
“I believe we’re ready and looking forward to the match, we want to erase the Nedbank Cup loss in Cape Town,” said Mkhwanazi.
“We aren’t playing badly and we did well against Ajax but we were just unlucky.
“I believe we’ve looked at what needs to be improved and we can convert the chances we create against Pirates.
“Playing at home is a huge bonus as our support base will be behind us, we hope to reverse the first round result and make it a win.”
