City hoping to dim Stars

Polokwane City will look at bouncing back from their 2-0 loss to AmaZulu when they host Free State Stars on Saturday afternoon at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Kick-off is at 3:00pm.

Rise and Shine will target the full three points as they hope to consolidate their top eight spot after their loss to the revived Usuthu side in their midweek clash.

The Citizens have grown to become feared and are one of the most attacking outfits this season as they are placed at position eight on the Absa Premiership standings with 33 points from 25 matches.

Their visitors, on the other hand, are at the bottom at position 15 with 22 points from 24 league matches.

Kinnah Phiri’s men last played when they lost to Steve Barker’s men by 1-0 during the Easter weekend and will be hoping to register maximum points to climb up the log to ease their relegation worries.

According to City’s midfielder Cole Alexander, there’s a strong need for them to bounce back to winning ways.

“Yes, we have a chance to bounce back at home. It’s not going to be easy because everyone is fighting for points,” said Alexander.

"We are not dropping our heads, we need to work harder and fight for every point - yes I think we’ve reached our target to be safe in the league.

“So now we have a new aim to be in the top eight.”

According to Kostadin Papic’s counterpart, Phiri, they have devised a strategy to make sure they finish the last six games on a high.

“The squad is intact and everybody is working together to make sure we finish these last six games positively,” said Phiri.

“We got a psychologist in. He came in to motivate and counsel the players last week. They are in the right mindset now.

“The squad has been training. We didn’t slow down and we trained three times last week. This week we are also preparing for the game against Polokwane City.

“Our training session on Tuesday was very good. The players are saying they are going to honour Richard by fighting relegation.”
