Mpumalanga is set to kick-start the 2015 edition of the highly anticipated Nedbank Ke Yona Team Search.
The country’s largest football talent search initiative headed by the highly experienced quartet of Shakes Mashaba, Owen Da Gama, Khabo Zondo and Mike Mangena is scheduled for Saturday, 18 April at Mbombela Stadium, Nelspruit.
For the past two years, Nedbank has been on a nationwide search for raw football talent that is so abundant in the country. The chosen Nedbank Ke Yona Team play against the winners of the Nedbank Cup on live television to afford them an opportunity to showcase their talent.
The Ke Yona Team Search has given life to the dreams of a number of players who have made a name for themselves in their respective teams across the Premier Soccer League and National First Division.
Speaking on behalf of the Ke Yona Team selectors, Bafana Bafana assistant coach, Owen Da Gama has made a call to young players nationwide to grab this unique opportunity. “It is always an exciting time for us when we get the opportunity to reach out to the furthest parts of the country and find those gems that have never had the chance of being scouted," he said.
"Through such initiatives, we found players like Maphosa Modiba, who we also took to the Caf Youth Championships with the under-20 national team. We therefore urge players from across the Mpumalanga province to come and emulate their own heroes such as Mandla Masango and Happy Jele who also come from this province,“ added the Bafana Bafana assistant.
Nedbank’s Divisional Executive for Group Marketing Sydney Nhlanhla Mbhele echoed the sentiments of the Bafana coach, saying that the Ke Yona Team Search is within Nedbank’s vision of being a bank that enables people to make the things that really matter happen.
“Everyone has a dream that they believe in. It seems impossible at times until someone presents an opportunity that will give life to that dream.
"The Nedbank Ke Yona Team Search is about turning dreams into a reality, producing heroes within communities but most importantly, making the things that really matter happen. We are making a plea to South Africans to take up this unique opportunity that could prove to be the springboard to making their football dreams a reality” concluded Mbhele.
Players between the ages of 18 and 25 in possession of a valid South African ID can also make their dreams happen by simply dialling *120*KEYONA# or *120*539662# and following the easy steps to enter.
Successful applicants are reminded to bring their identity documents when coming to the stadium for the trials.
